‘Other players’ – Birmingham City boss responds to Bailey Peacock-Farrell boos in dramatic win over Peterborough

On Saturday afternoon, Birmingham City overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Peterborough United 3-2.

Coach of Birmingham City Chris Davies has stood up for Bailey Peacock-Farrell, the goalie, after some members of the home crowd jeered him during the team’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Peterborough United on Saturday.

Within 16 minutes, the Blues were behind 2-0 as goals from Emmanuel Fernandez and Ricky-Jade Jones handed the home team a startling lead. For the first goal, Jade-Jones challenged the Northern Ireland international to force the ball into the net from close range, but Peacock-Farrell was caught in possession on his goal-line. Despite the indignant jeers from the home crowd, Davies jumped up to defend his goalkeeper following the game.

The error did not prove to be costly in the end, as Jay Stansfield’s deflected shot early in the second half leveled the score and Willum Willumsson put Birmingham back in the game. In the 66th minute, captain Krystian Bielik finished the comeback on his way home.

“We didn’t quite have the edge that we normally do,” Davies continued. We’re a little bit behind after the first goal, which was obviously a bit of an error. After that, we failed to defend a set-piece effectively, and now you’re up against a formidable opponent. From then on, I believe the response was positive. After the first goal, I believe it expanded.

Birmingham now has 19 points, two more than second-place Wrexham. After the loss, Peterborough is still in midtable. Their manager, Darren Ferguson, was not happy with the outcome and claimed that the ball should not have counted because it struck Bielik’s arm in the Blues’ victory.

“We are really disappointed with the outcome. We always aim to win our games, no matter who we play against, and we obviously had a great start,” he stated. The strategy was working wonderfully. Our goal was to force them all the way up the pitch. Especially with them aiming for their own supporters, you want to get off to a strong start in the second half. And pay attention, you require some luck. Stanfield then strikes my center-half with a shot that goes miles wide but still enters.
