Lionel Messi storms out of Inter Miami following a late dispute in their match with Charlotte FC, accusing the MLS referee of being a “son of a b*tch.”

Lionel Messi has come under fire for allegedly yelling an expletives at the referee during Saturday’s MLS match between Inter Miami and Charlotte FC.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The referee had denied the Herons two penalties in the last seconds of the game, which infuriated Ole. In the first case, following a comprehensive VAR review, the penalty call was rejected; in the second, Luis Suarez’s pleas were dismissed following his fall inside the opposition’s box following a collision with goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina.

WHAT LIONEL MESSI SAID

According to the Argentine newspaper, after the full-time whistle, Messi called the referee a “Mean-spirited son of a b*tch”. The official did not take the insult lightly as he immediately showed the Argentina captain a yellow card.

The 37-year-old saved the day for Inter Miami in the second half, scoring the equalizer in the 67th minute to give his team a vital point in the MLS match against Charlotte FC, in spite of the subsequent controversy. At the moment, Miami leads the Eastern Conference standings by eight points, ahead of the Columbus Crew in second place.
