‘I can’t believe’ – Sky Sports host reacts as Boyd reveals Sutton text after Rangers-Hibs incident

‘I can’t believe’ – Sky Sports host reacts as Boyd reveals Sutton text after Rangers-Hibs incident.

According to Kris Boyd, Chris Sutton instantly questioned why Rangers did not have John Souttar sent off when Hibs were awarded a penalty at Ibrox.

During Sky Sports’ half-time coverage of the Gers’ 1-0 Scottish Premiership win, the pundit stated that the former Celtic striker, who was not present, contacted him immediately after Hibs were awarded a penalty for handball after Souttar blocked Mykola Kuharevich’s attempt with an elbow.

Boyd maintained that Jack Butland, who saved the spot kick, would have prevented the initial attempt, thus there was no need for a red card, following a VAR review by Kevin Clancy resulted in the penalty being awarded, while host Eilidh Barbour couldn’t believe Sutton was involved.

Boyd asked (1pm): “Can I just clear something up? My huge pal has been messaging, ‘Why hasn’t he been sent off?’

“He didn’t get sent off because Jack Butland was behind him and could have saved it, so he wasn’t depriving a goal scoring opportunity.

“There you go Mr Sutton.”

Barbour responded, “I can’t believe we’re talking about him and he’s not here.”

Boyd objected, “He texted me right away!” Right away! Why isn’t it a red card? Honestly.”

“I thought we were gonna get a break today,” James McFadden said.

John Souttar avoids card as Rangers concede penalty

In the end, Souttar was not even booked for the close-range touch with his arm, even though the attempt did not appear to be very dangerous.

Tom Lawrence’s sensational opening put Philippe Clement’s team ahead after another VAR review revealed that he was onside throughout the buildup.

The timing of the penalty threatened to disrupt what had been a rather decent half, but Kuharevich’s shot after a halting run up was easily saved by Butland.

Rangers have improved since their defeat in the Old Firm rivalry, with a 2-0 success at Malmo in midweek being the season’s highlight.

A sloppy second half performance against Hibs highlighted that there is still a long way to go, and Clement’s substitutions at halftime appeared to have a negative impact.

Souttar’s presence on the pitch helped establish him as the top central-defensive option, while newcomer Robin Propper improved after a slow start in Glasgow.
