Hibs rage over Rangers fans’ behaviour earns furious Hotline backlash as Leith chiefs get glass houses reminder

Hibs’ outrage at Rangers supporters’ behavior sparks angry Hotline response, while Leith leaders receive a glass houses reminder.

Andy Newport answered the phone as the repercussions from Sunday’s Scottish Cup match in Leith persisted.

Hibs will reduce ticket allocations for future visits to Easter Road in response to fans’ fury over the behavior of travelling Rangers supporters on Sunday.

However, the Ibrox faithful believe the Leith legions may benefit from taking a long, hard look in the mirror.Barrhead resident Stevie Jackson stated, “Honestly, you couldn’t make it up! Here we have Hibs supporters complaining about Rangers fans singing “naughty” songs and requesting bans. Have they taken a look at themselves recently? In the last Edinburgh derby, Lawrence Shankland was subjected to a barrage of abuse, and Rangers players faced more challenges on Sunday. “What’s the old saying about sticks and stones?”

Willie Mercer, Dumfries, added: “I must have missed the Hibs Supporters Association writing to their club to register their disgust at their own supporters’ thug behavior during the Hearts game. All sorts of missiles were thrown at Lawrence Shankland when getting ready to take his penalty, including a bottle opener.” I do not condone sectarian signings in any manner, but I cannot support the double standard used here.”

Jimmy Strangers, Tranent, emailed: “The Hibs board has a brass neck.” They are cutting ticket allocations for away fans, citing unacceptable behavior and yelling. However, before targeting away fans, Hibs should first address their own issues. Recently, Hibs supporters hurled missiles against Hearts and Rangers. Pot calling the pot black.”

Dr. Robert Pender questioned if the reduction in allocation to Rangers will lead to increased attendance by Hibs supporters. “I doubt it.”

Rab Hunter, of Dumfries, texted me to say: “I only caught the last five minutes of Hibs’ quarter final against Rangers but was delighted to see that they appear to have finally taken action against their own hooligan element as there only seemed to be about 60 home fans there.”

Leven’s Tam McAllister applauded Easter Road’s actions, but believes other authorities should follow suit. “The sickening sectarian chanting from so-called fans when Martin Boyle was injured is unacceptable,” the speaker stated. Imagine the uproar if it had been about a black or Muslim player; no doubt the authorities in Scotland would turn a blind eye as they usually do. “It is truly Scotland’s shame.”

Mick Bain, Leith, supports Leith manager Nick Montgomery’s desire for full-time referees, citing recent bad judgments. Here’s an idea: why not remove the ineffective VAR system and use the money to support adequate salaries for full-time officials?”
