Following an incredible comeback victory over Peterborough United at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, Birmingham City took the lead in League One.

Blues overcame an early two-nil deficit to win League One for the sixth time in a row and go up to the top of the standings. Since 1985, the Blues have not won the league in six successive games.

Peterborough’s lead was swiftly extended by Emmanuel Fernandez after Ricky-Jade Jones opened the score. Oscar Wallin (OG) and Krystian Bielik’s goals in the second half sealed the comeback after Willum Willumsson had cut the deficit before halftime.

Four minutes in, Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s ability to play out of the back was questioned for the second time this season. Posh forward Jones rushed down to the goalkeeper, and the ball found its way into his net.

Within 16 minutes, the visitors had doubled their lead, in large part because of some careless Blues defense. At first, Peacock-Farrell denied Jones at the cost of a corner, but Peterborough scored. Fernandez powerfully met Archie Collins’ flag-kick at the near post, causing the Blues net to bulge once more.

In the first few minutes, Emil Hansson posed the greatest threat to the Blues, as his cross found Lyndon Dykes unmarked six yards from goal. Dykes’ header beat Posh goalkeeper Jed Steer, but Jack Sparkes was in the ideal place to clear off the line.

Hansson’s warning was ignored by Peterborough, and the Swede’s subsequent attack down the left ended in a goal. Hansson entered the game by one-twoing with Jay Stansfield, and he found Willumsson for the close-range conversion.

After Willumsson’s score, the Blues got better, but manager Chris Davies wasn’t satisfied. Throughout the first half, he gave out a dissatisfied vibe, and during the halftime, he probably went loose on his charges.

At the half, Davies made two changes: Scott Wright and Keshi Anderson took the places of Hansson and Lyndon Dykes. Halftime remarks by Davies and the alterations took effect immediately.

Stansfield, who was now closer to the goal and inside shooting range, took a shot from somewhat inside the box. When Stansfield’s shot ricocheted off Wallin’s back and into the corner of Peterborough’s goal, it was headed for the corner flag.

Midway through the second half, Blues took the lead thanks to a goal from their skipper. Bielik forced Paik’s cross home at the far post after he worked a short corner to Tomoki Iwata.

In stoppage time, Willumsson came dangerously close to putting a fourth past Steer, but the goalkeeper stopped him. The Blues were already ahead in League One after three points, so they didn’t need the cherry on top.
