Tommy Makinson, Matty Ashton, and Liam Marshall
Our list of the nine greatest wingers in the Super League for 2024 includes Tommy Makinson of St Helens, Matty Ashton of Warrington Wolves, and Liam Marshall of Wigan Warriors.
This season in Super League, there have been some consistently outstanding players everywhere on the pitch, especially out on the wings.
In 162 games during the normal Super League season, well over 1,000 tries were scored, with wingers accounting for a significant portion of those tries.
The top nine players we’ve seen on the wings in Super League this year are ranked below, with over 50 players expected to line up on the wings in the top division in 2024.

Sponsored Ad Prior to suffering an injury that kept him out of action for the rest of the season, Huddersfield’s off-season acquisition Swift was a revelation. The former Hull FC star had averaged almost 150 meters per game and scored 11 tries in 10 league games by the time he underwent the necessary adductor surgery.
8. St Helens native Tommy Makinson
In his last season with his childhood team, Makinson has also missed a few games due to suspension and a significant amount of time due to injury. Even yet, the veteran finished with 12 tries in 19 league games with the Saints, averaging over 13 carries per contest and posing a threat to any opposing defense he faced.

7. The Castleford Tigers’ Innes Senior
Senior Innes
In 2024, Innes Senior rushes in to give the Castleford Tigers a try.
Ireland international Senior finished the season as a constant, ranking first on the try-scorers chart until the last four games, when he and Castleford were unable to score any points. This season in Super League, the 24-year-old crossed the finish line 14 times and averaged just under 110 meters per game.
6. The Warrington Wolves’ Josh Thewlis
Thewlis has been outstanding on his own in 2024 as well, but he frequently gets overlooked at Warrington due of the player on the other wing (which we’ll discuss later). In 20 league games during the “regular” campaign, the Wire academy product scored 12 tries and averaged over 114 meters per game. In addition, he scored 65 goals to provide Sam Burgess’ team 130 points.

5. Ryan Hall (Kirker Row)
Ryan Hall
Hull KR’s Ryan Hall in action in 2024
Although Hall has had a quiet 2024 by his usual standards, 14 attempts isn’t a return to be taken lightly. During the course of the “regular” season, the seasoned player averaged nearly 140 meters per game, making him the Super League’s all-time best try-scorer back in June. By the way, he turns 37 in November and played in every league game for the Robins. What a guy.
4. Ash Handley (Leeds Rhinos) A product of Leeds Academy Handley’s injury kept him out of the Rhinos’ final five games of the season, and you have to wonder how they would have performed if he had been available. In 18 league games, the speedster scored 14 tries, averaging over 17 carries each contest and over 155 meters of running.
