Marco Rose on RB Leipzig’s goal-scoring struggles: “We’re just having trouble being a real threat and asserting ourselves right now.”
Following RB Leipzig’s 0-0 tie with St Pauli (via kicker), head coach Marco Rose discussed the team’s recent struggles with their offensive.
Leipzig has only earned a point following 0-0 draws against St Pauli and Union Berlin, both of whom are regarded to be strong opponents. In midweek, despite scoring early, Atletico Madrid never bothered Jan Oblak.
Regarding the difficulties in attack, head coach Rose stated:
“Our offense is weak. We’re just having trouble expressing ourselves and posing a genuine danger to the goal right now.”
Rose then added:
“We now have a training week to handle the issue. I believe I can accurately analyze these phases, including how they occur.”
This emotion was reflected across the team, with centre-back Willi Orban saying:
“There was simply not enough moving ahead. We didn’t generate enough opportunities, were too imprecise on the last line, didn’t cross enough, and lacked box presence. We’re lacking some strength pushing forward right now.”
Leipzig’s key front three (Loïs Openda, Xavi Simons, and Benjamin Seško) have struggled in their first games. Seško had an 11-game scoring streak last season, but has not maintained that success in the current Bundesliga season. Openda demonstrated his ability in Leipzig’s victory against Bayer Leverkusen, but has since been quiet, missing a penalty against Union Berlin.
While Simons has not been his normal self, he has failed to appear as dynamic and vibrant as he did the previous season. The Dutch international has yet to score in the Bundesliga and has only provided one assist, against Leverkusen.
