In March of last year, how former Bhoys defender convinced him to join Celtic.

Even though Viljami Sinisalo only joined Celtic in the summer, he is already enjoying his time at the Bhoys after leaving Aston Villa.

Although Celtic hasn’t seen a return on their £1 million investment since acquiring the Finn, there is optimism that the team has a well-thought-out plan in place for the stopper.

With the long-term goal of replacing Kasper Schmeichel as the starting goalie after the Danish international hangs up his boots, Sinisalo has settled in as the team’s backup.

He never thought twice about leaving the Villans, even though he understood what his job would be upon arrival and that playing regular first-team football was not in the cards for the time being.

Now, Sinisalo has revealed that back in March, while he was on loan at Exeter City and working under former Bhoys defender Gary Caldwell, he received the hard sell on a switch to Celtic.

Viljami Sinisalo was pushed by Gary Caldwell to join Celtic.

Sinisalo [Celtic TV] responded, “He was the first one to tap me up when the interest started early on back in March time,” when asked what the Exeter boss had said to him prior to heading to Glasgow.

“He was telling me that I had to complete this task. This is a chance that doesn’t present itself often in your profession, so you must seize it when it does.

“Everyone else said pretty much the same thing when I told them about the interest.” I didn’t really have any doubts. I was going to be traveling in this direction.

About the club, he was very appreciative. They were very kind remarks, as he declared, “I’m going to sign for the best club in the world.”
Timeline of Sinsisalo’s competitive debut

Next month, Brendan Rodgers will send his squad to Ireland to play Sligo Rovers in a friendly, giving Celtic fans a chance to play for the Bhoys.

However, if Schmeichel avoids injuries, Sinisalo might have to wait for his competitive debut.

Having missed the first round of the Scottish League Cup, the Finn is not expected to be catapulted into the final if Celtic defeat Aberdeen or the semi-final at Hampden.

Given that Rodgers’ club doesn’t play in the Scottish Cup until mid-January, the early rounds of the competition currently appear to be the best chance to give Sinisalo a chance in this Celtic squad.
