Celtic see another Champions League rival stunned as Cesc Fabregas orchestrates Atalanta downfall

The former Arsenal player enjoyed a triumphant night in Bergamo, with Como’s first Italian top-flight win in two decades.

Celtic’s Champions League rivals Atalanta were startled as former Arsenal and Chelsea player Cesc Fabregas guided Como to their first Serie A victory in over two decades.

Fabregas and his teammates celebrated in the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, where Brendan Rodgers will take his side next month on matchday three of UEFA’s main competition, after edging the Europa League holders by five goals. And it comes just days after another strong gun in Celtic’s sector, Borussia Dortmund, was crushed 5-1 in the Bundesliga, with the Germans the Hoops’ next opponents in Europe.

Celtic began their season with a 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava at Parkhead, boosting Rodgers’ team’s confidence ahead of two challenging road games against opponents who have struggled domestically.
Fabregas watched as his Como side, owned by tobacco giant Djarum, scored three goals in a dramatic 12-minute period to turn the tide against a powerful Atalanta team.

The former Spain international was named Como’s manager in the summer, leading the club to its first season in the top division in 21 years. And he responded: “It feels amazing to lead this team to such a historic victory.”The match was scheduled for Monday night, but was postponed for 24 hours due to excessive rain in the Bergamo region. Atalanta took the lead through Davide Zappacosta, but Como struck back three times before Europa League final hat-trick hero Ademola Lookman netted a late consolation penalty.
