Before they even left for Dortmund, Brendan Rodgers made his players exhibit a Champions League attitude.

At McDiarmid Park, however, Rodgers wanted his team to play like a team that had a seat at the top table of Europe. In the end, it was a Perthshire parade, but Rogers insists this was no easy tick box exercise, and he was happy with the way the champions mercilessly warmed up against the Saints in preparation for a much tougher test later this week on the continent. “I said to the players before the game that this was an opportunity for us to show a mentality,” he stated to Premier Sports.

“We wish to maintain our cadence. When I made all the adjustments last week, I upset the rhythm. It was to be expected; I hadn’t anticipated us to be so supple.
“Auston Trusty, who is playing off the opposite side, is one of the men arriving this evening and he looks terrific. Arriving at left back, young Alex Valle displayed his poise and talent.”The way you look at it, this was a game of perception. For the most part, it was merely a check-box exercise before traveling to Dortmund. It was, for me, an opportunity to demonstrate a genuinely positive mindset.
“When you judge a team, you’re judging them when you expect to win.” On Tuesday night, everyone will be flying, but I want to watch what they do when they arrive here or when they visit these other locations. You’ll know then if you’re a Celtics player or not because you have to have the right mindset, and tonight’s performance was excellent.”
