Derby County manager Paul Warne

Derby County’s head coach, Paul Warne, responded diplomatically to criticism of officials following two important errors in their 3-2 loss to Norwich this afternoon.

The Canaries ruined the Rams’ perfect home record in the Championship, although the outcome was controversial. Borja Sainz’s opening goal should not have stood because television replays showed Josh Sargent’s cross to be out of play.

The Norwich winger’s third goal should have come from a Derby corner, but referees missed it. However, Warne remained silent after the game, only stating that he was dissatisfied by the choices.

“The officials are pretty close to it for the first one aren’t they,” he informed me. “I am saddened that they have not seen it. However, they can only report what they observe.

“No one protested about the second goal; there was nothing to complain about. But I only knew at the moment, and I can rewind things by 15 or 30 seconds, but that is an important aspect of the game.

“I simply feel sad for my teammates. They pushed themselves to their limits, gave it their all, and are an excellent bunch. They played bravely. Everyone claims it evens out, and I’m looking forward to that.
