At Celtic, Elena Sadiku says she’s “been through hell” to live her ambition.

Elena Sadiku, head coach of Celtic FC Women, has been thinking back on her team’s accomplishment since they advanced to the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage.

The club is participating in the tournament for the first time, and Celtic is the first Scottish team to be placed in the groups under the present structure.

Following Thursday night’s victory over Vorskla Poltava, the English champions Chelsea, the Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid, and the Dutch champions FC Twente will square off in a thrilling draw.

For Sadiku, who has experienced a lengthy journey in football, it’s almost surreal. Due to knee problems, she was forced to resign from competition early, but she overcame this to become a successful instructor. She’s only thirty, but her future seems bright.

Elena Sadiku leads Celtic into a new age by persevering through “dark” circumstances.

“I have been in the dark,” she stated this past weekend [Herald Sport, print edition, 28/09]. I’ve experienced hell. However, I have always worked very hard for whatever I have.

We have accomplished something amazing, therefore I’m trying to savor the moment and appreciate it.

“We are really excited about this and feel like we’ve put Celtic on the map in women’s football by qualifying for the group stages.” We can’t wait to battle at home against FC Twente, Real Madrid, and Chelsea.

It will be a hard task, but we are up to the challenge and will take it on with confidence. Being one of the top 16 teams in Europe demonstrates the development and bition of this club. I can’t wait to push on and create even more history.

Elena Sadiku, Manager of Celtic reacts after the UEFA Women's Champions League 2024/25 Second Round Second Leg match between Celtic and Vorskla Pol...

“I doubt I could adequately convey the thrill. Nothing has been accomplished by anyone else except us. I’m not sure what will give them confidence if that doesn’t.

“With this group’s unity, I am confident, but we still need to learn from this experience.”
Celtic FC Women will return to Paradise

Following the draw, Celtic revealed on Friday that Sadiku’s team would be playing at Celtic Park for one of their home games in Europe, which should help attract a sizable attendance.

The women’s team has previously played at Paradise, but it might be an extremely unique experience to represent the team in the Champions League in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

The match that will be chosen for the big night is still unknown, but when it is confirmed, be sure to put it on your calendars as something important to watch.

When it comes to creating new ground at Celtic, Sadiku is far from done.
