Adam Pope: £35,000-a-week Leeds “leader” may now require surgery after new injury update

Adam Pope revealed a new Thorp Arch injury report, indicating that a key Leeds United player may require surgery.

Leeds Results and Fixtures

The Whites and Daniel Farke have had an intriguing season so far. Leeds are currently in the Championship playoffs with 11 points out of a possible 18.

They won against Sheffield Wednesday, Hull City, and, most recently, Cardiff City, drew with Portsmouth and West Brom, and lost just to Burnley. The games are coming thick and fast for Farke and his team, with Coventry City next up at Elland Road.

Leeds United’s next five Championship games Date
Leeds United vs Coventry City September 28
Norwich City vs Leeds United October 1
Sunderland vs Leeds United October 4
Leeds United vs Sheffield United October 18
Leeds United vs Watford October 22

Leeds, who recently revealed a proposal to extend Elland Road, will be missing a number of players for the encounter, with a troubling injury update on one specific player.

Leeds injury update – Max Wober

Pope, who was at Thorp Arch for Farke’s pre-match news conference on Thursday, told X that Wober is still out and that he may need surgery on his knee, with a decision expected in the coming days.

Farke said that the defender will miss the game against Cardiff due to a setback in training on Friday. He was not in the matchday squad.

“He’s had some recurring knee difficulties. Our medical department is doing everything possible to find a conservative solution, and we will find out in the next days. We attempted to push him back into team training, but we will need to make a choice in the coming days if this does not work and he is unable to return. We’d probably have to go with surgery, which would put him out for a few weeks. But we’re hoping to get him back into training in the early part of next week.”

Wober, who returned from a loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer, has failed to make an impression in Leeds’ 24/25 season, making his only game against Middlesbrough in a 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat.

The Austrian international earns £35,000 a week and is currently ranked third behind Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon. If fit, he could play this weekend, as Struijk is also a doubt.

That will not be the case, though, as Wober remains sidelined. Former RB Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund praised the 26-year-old, stating, “Max is not only a really good defender, just in the way we want of him.” He is also a true team leader who is willing to accept responsibilities, which is vital for our young team.”
