On Saturday afternoon, Sunderland and Watford will resume their Championship match at Vicarage Road.
After defeating Middlesbrough 1-0 in the league to avenge their first league loss of the season, Regis Le Bris’ team looked to maintain momentum in a busy week leading up to the international break. After a stellar start to the season, Watford’s performance has declined, as they have only picked up one point from their previous three games. But they gave a strong performance in the Carabao Cup against Manchester City earlier in the week, which will give Tom Cleverley hope that they can recover.
In addition to dealing with injury concerns, both head coaches must make some important selections. Here, we run you through everything you need to know…
Ian Poveda is accessible.
Due to a thigh injury, Poveda has missed the last two games. However, he trained fully this weekend, and Le Bris anticipates that he will rejoin the team. Will have to make do with a bench spot and hope that he can steal some thunder in lieu of an impact player. The author is Chris Fryatt.
2. Alan Browne: uncertainty
Due to a minor knee injury, Browne was able to play against Middlesbrough 1-0, and Le Bris is optimistic that Browne will be available for Watford. I should be able to come back next week if not. Ian Horrocks
3. Aaron Connolly is not in.
Connolly signed a one-year contract earlier this week; Sunderland signed him mostly because of his exceptional condition, but he still needs to develop match fitness and won’t likely make his debut until after the international break. | Getty Pictures Pictured by Matt
Daniel Bachmann is not in.
Muscle injury forced him to leave the game early in last weekend’s loss to Norwich City, and he won’t be able to return until after the international break. Significant setback because he is captain and usually a lock pick. Jonathan Bond will serve as his stand-in. | Getty Pictures
