Sheffield Wednesday v West Brom: Who's out and who's a doubt with fresh midfield concern | Express & Star

Albion are concerned about the fitness of important midfielder Alex Mowatt for Saturday’s game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Mowatt had tightness in his adductor muscles during last weekend’s 1-0 win against Plymouth, and the 29-year-old has been unable to practice regularly this week.

The central midfielder did, however, exercise on Thursday, and if he finishes Friday’s practice with minimum discomfort, he will be considered for Carlos Corberan’s plans in South Yorkshire.Mowatt has continued to be an important element of the Baggies’ squad this season, as seen by his two goals against Portsmouth.

As Albion go north, Corberan is concerned about more than just him in midfield. Jayson Molumby missed the game against Plymouth due to a calf injury, while Uroc Racic made his full debut, but Molumby trained this week and is set to return to contention.

Jayson Molumby, calf

The Republic of Ireland international missed the home game against Plymouth due to calf soreness he experienced in the last triumph at Portsmouth.

Molumby returned to training this week and, barring any additional setbacks, is pushing for a midfield position at Hillsborough.

“He is much better, he has been progressing well,” Corberan stated of Molumby. “The injury was not significant. We were able to function without him the prior weekend, which allowed him to participate in the next one. “If he finishes training on Friday, he can participate on Saturday.”

Alex Mowatt, adductor

I’m experiencing soreness in the adductor muscles of my upper thigh, leading to my hip.

The injury has hampered his training this week, but the midfielder still has a chance to play against the Owls.

“Mowey after the Plymouth game was feeling a little bit of fatigue in the adductor, with some pain,” according to the coach.

“He couldn’t make a normal week of training, but he was working Thursday, he is going to work on Friday and if he completes training he is another who will be available – then it will be on me to make the decisions to see if they made a normal week or not.”

Daryl Dike – Achilles

Corberan indicated last week that the striker was around five to six weeks away from returning to action.

The frontman has been sidelined since February with his second Achilles injury, but he has participated in training and will increase the intensity and frequency over the next several weeks. He is expected to be ready in November.
