Lace up for the scenic Isle of Wight Walking Festival starting next week

Are you ready to put on your walking shoes and discover the breathtaking beauty of the Isle of Wight?

The award-winning Isle of Wight Walking Festival begins in just one week, and we invite you to join the journey.

This year’s festival, which runs from October 5th to 13th, offers an extraordinary lineup of guided walks, ranging from leisurely strolls to exciting hikes, all conducted by friendly local experts. Whether you’re an experienced walker or simply looking for a fun day out with friends and family, there’s something for everyone.

Over 100 walks to choose from

With over 100 treks to choose from over the island, here are some of the highlighted walks available: New for Autumn 2024 are the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary’s Culver Down Circular (5 miles), Afton Marsh and Golden Hill Country Park’s Gift to Nature (4.5 miles), and Wight Nature Fund’s 4-mile stroll around Yarmouth and through Mill Copse.

Join Richard Quigley, MP for the Isle of Wight West, on an 18-mile North-South trip from Egypt Point in Cowes to St Catherine’s Lighthouse. Alternatively, take a leisurely stroll along Cowes Seafront.

The Lost Crypt and Walk on the Wilde Side

Join guided walks in and around the island’s towns and villages, including The Lost Crypt Walk and Walk on the Wilde Side in Ryde, the Newport Volunteer Walk, Historic Carisbrooke to Newport Minster, Meanders with Malcolm in the picturesque town of Yarmouth, and a series of Dickens-themed walks in Bonchurch.

Short wildlife treks include Naturezones’ Nature’s Table and Nettlecombe Farm’s popular family-friendly animal feeding walk. A Walk through the Heavens takes you on an astounding solar system walk; Friends of Northwood Cemetery offers a pleasant stroll through history; Planet Aware takes you to the seashore in search of the elusive nurdle; and Brading Down Pits and Paths follows in the footsteps of Roman farmers.

Summers: Thanks to all the volunteer walk leaders, businesses and transport providers

Amy Summers, Sustainable Travel, Trade, and Exhibitions Manager at Visit Isle of Wight, stated,

“With only a week to go, we’re already witnessing record-breaking numbers of registered walkers and people travelling from the mainland and overseas to join us.

“I’m really looking forward to the event starting next week and my continued thanks to all the volunteer walk leaders, businesses and transport providers for their support.”

The Isle of Wight Walking Festival is organised by Visit Isle of Wight and funded by Island businesses through the Wight BID charge.
