Rangers player slammed by CBS pundit live on air for ‘horrific’ thing he did vs Malmo
Although Rangers emerged from their trip to Malmo with a convincing victory, Michael Lahoud called Vaclav Cerny’s first-half miss “horrific.”
Following a wonderful link-up with Cyriel Dessers, Nedim Bajrami played the Wolfsburg loanee clean through shortly before the break. The CBS Sports analyst responded live during the network’s halftime broadcast of the Europa League match on September 26.
Lahoud said he had lost sight of the goal as the Czech attempted to curl the ball wide of the far post with just the keeper to beat, failing to double the lead 1-0.
At 6:38 p.m., he stated, “They’ll be kicking themselves because they deserve to be up two, possibly three goals.”
“Vaclav Cerny is a player who ought to put that away. You just witnessed his horrifying miss. If you’re Clement, then you should advocate for patience while simultaneously being more methodical and forceful in the last third.
They have enough quality in the final third, despite altering the team’s genetic makeup from the previous campaign. They are excellent counterattackers.
He genuinely had a little extra time to perhaps raise his head, go for the lob, glance at the goalie, and go well off the line. I learned from a coach to always know where the goal and the goalie are, and I believe he lost sight of both, which is why you noticed the incorrect angle on the miss.
Vaclav Cerny has a rough evening as the top Rangers triumph.
Although Cerny’s miss was terrible, it might have been far worse had it given Malmo another chance to win the game.
Jack Butland was essentially untested the entire night because of his outstanding all-around performance.
Not only did Cerny squander a guilt-edged opportunity set up by the excellent Bajrami, but in the second half, Dessers and Neraysho Kasanwirjo also managed to do the same.
Both Dessers and Kasanwirjo had to play at left-back with Jefte suspended and Ridvan Yilmaz still ailing, and it worked to their advantage that they both had strong games aside from that. Hamza Igamane’s passport problems prevented him from traveling [4 Lads Had A Dream, September 26].
While not every player was performing to the best of their abilities, Clement was nonetheless highly pleased with what he saw from his team. The Belgian will be hoping that a 2-0 success away at a team that has previously dealt Rangers some serious blows can be a turning point after a difficult start.
Even though the Light Blues led 1-0 in the opening minute and subsequently missed numerous chances to score a second, it is a testament to how well they neutralized their opponents that the match didn’t feel particularly tense. The final score might have easily been 5-0 or higher.
Eventually, on a fantastic night in Europe for Rangers, if not for Cerny personally, Ross McCausland came off the bench and resolved the issue himself.
