Two former Pirates players are available for signing with Kaizer Chiefs.

Kaizer Chiefs are still able to sign a few elite players. That is, these former stars of the Orlando Pirates can now sign with Amakhosi.

Outside of the transfer window, Kaizer Chiefs are eligible to sign free agents, including former Pirates players.

There were no strikers or attackers available for Kaizer Chiefs to sign during the most recent transfer window.

In other words, Nasreddine Nabi and the Amakhosi management have a very good list of free agents to choose from if they still feel the need to bolster their team.

We examine the former Orlando Pirates players that the Chiefs may sign in the near future.
Chiefs and ex-prisoners may sign

Ndumiso Mabena and Kermit Erasmus are both free agents.

Moreover, the Chiefs are looking to add an attacker, or attackers.

Erasmus is a seasoned player who has played for teams like Mamelodi Sundowns and, most recently, Pirates. However, Mabena, a former player for both Royal AM and the Pirates, is also an accomplished attacker.

However, in all likeliness, Erasmus and Mabena are not the type of players Amakhosi are after. Meanwhile, Ofori to Chiefs was sacked and shortly shut down. Amakhosi is therefore unlikely to be considering any of the players mentioned above.

Attackers from Amakhosi take center stage.

The Chiefs’ upfront signings were the center of so much attention and anticipation.

Strangely, neither Nabi nor Amakhosi signed any forwards—strikers or wings. Thus, for the remainder of the year, the attackers that are now on the scene will need to step up.

Their primary attackers are Wandile Duba, Ashley Du Preez,

Christian Saille, and Ranga Chivaviro.

Following a disappointing first season the previous season, Chivaviro has a point to prove. Saile, meanwhile, is probably one of the Chiefs players leaving. Thus, if he hopes to keep his Amakhosi career intact, he will require a great season. Du Preez is also likely aware that the Amakhosi management was thinking of selling him for R40 million to Vitoria SC in Portugal. In fact, he stayed because Amakhosi could not sign a striker in time.

Lastly, because of his extraordinary talent, Duba will seek to convince selectors that he can contribute significantly to the senior team. Ultimately, he has been eclipsed thus far by Mfundo Vilakazi, Samkelo Zwane, and Mduduzi Shabalala, his former DDC comrades.
