‘I’m yet to be convinced’ ex-Gers star backtracks on summer signing amid growing Ibrox hype

Kris Boyd, a former Rangers striker, understands what it takes to be successful at Ibrox.

The former Rangers player won six major championships and led the team to a UEFA Cup Final during his first stint in Govan.

While Boyd’s second Rangers stint left a lot to be desired, the hitman is now making a reputation for himself as a pundit on television.

The Scottish football circuit.

Kris Boyd, one of Rangers’ most popular summer signings, has changed his mind as the team’s season stabilises after a difficult start.

Kris Boyd ‘unconvinced’ by Jefte

Brazilian left back Jefte has been one of the Rangers’ most positive additions this season.

The Ibrox club attempted and failed to bring the Fluminense prodigy to Glasgow in January, but got their man when Jefte’s loan term at APOEL expired in June.

Philippe Clement praised the recruitment team for locating the Brazilian, stating that Jefte’s value exceeds the money given by the Germans.

Kris Boyd commented on Jefte’s form earlier this week, stating that the Brazilian has ‘got something’ on the left side.

But the former Rangers striker appears to have changed his tune, stating that a new left-back might be on the way in the January transfer window.

Boyd highlighted new acquisitions Jefte and Robin Propper in response to interim chairman John Gilligan’s accusations about Clement’s transfer market support.

“I know Rangers have kept four clean sheets in five games,” Boyd told Sky Sports. “But I continue to look defensively and believe there is room for growth.

“I think Jefte; he plays some nice balls, but I’m not certain he’s a natural left-back.

“And (Robin) Propper has entered. Look, he’s done okay. I am not sure if it is the long-term solution for the Rangers on that side.”

Rangers need to find Europa League left-back ‘solution’

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has expressed the need for a’solution’ at left-back ahead of their Europa League match against Malmo.

The Gers will be without Brazilian left-back Jefte for the game, as the 20-year-old is serving a one-match suspension for being sent off in the Champions League QR3 defeat to Dynamo Kyiv.

Rangers are now without Turkish left-back Ridvan Yilmaz, one of four players worth over £17 million who are out due to injury.

The Gers also have academy defender Robbie Fraser as a natural left-back option.

The teenager has played for Philippe Clement and was given a fresh contract by the Belgian last season.

Rangers could also call on Ibrox utility player and natural right-back Dujon Sterling, who has played at left-back several times in his career.
