Larsson has offered support ahead of a huge Champions League tie.

Henrik Larsson has offered support to Celtic Women ahead of their Champions League play-off match.

The Hoops face Ukrainians Vorskla Poltava at Excelsior Stadium this evening, hoping to create history by reaching the group stages for the first time. They lead 1-0 from the away leg and will be considered favourites to advance to the next round.

Swedish manager Elena Sadiku credits her countryman, club legend Larsson, for his support. She stated, “He is supportive and monitors our results and Instagram stories. His contribution to the women’s game has been tremendous, and I am a huge fan of his.”

When asked if she had received any communications from the ‘King of Kings’, she teased: “Maybe I have…”

The opportunity to make history in the Champions League is a powerful motivator for the upcoming game. Sadiku didn’t reveal too much about what it would mean, but he did admit it would be a monumental event.

She continued, “It would put us among the top 16 teams in Europe. I got goosebumps simply thinking about it. It would mean a lot to get there. “That would be the pinnacle of my career.”
