Gary O’Neil now has an injury boost ahead of Liverpool’s match following Yerson Mosquera’s blow.

Although Wolves supporters have had a disappointing week, there is some positive news leading up to this weekend’s matchup with Liverpool. Last Saturday, Wanderers crashed to a 3-1 defeat against Aston Villa. Wolves took the lead at Villa Park, but once again stepped off the gas and allowed their opponents to get back into the game and take all three points. Yerson Mosquera got stretchered off during that game, and the club confirmed earlier this week that the defender has suffered ACL and MCL damage and likely won’t play again this season. The loss of Mosquera is tough to take. But there is at least a small bit of good news today with one player returning to training

Wolves’ chances of winning this weekend’s match against Liverpool are little to none. Nevertheless, it will be encouraging that the Reds have already suffered a home loss to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League this season. It’s certain that Mosquera won’t be available for the game for Wolves. Toti Gomes, who has been injured and missed the last three matchday squads, appears to be back available for Wolves. After the 1-1 draw with Forest, Toti developed a hamstring strain, therefore he was not risked against Newcastle United, Brighton in the Carabao Cup, or Aston Villa.

However, Wolves have made public a few fresh training images this morning, which show that Toti has been supporting training in advance of Wolves’ match against Liverpool. Gary O’Neil will be able to provide an update on the player’s fitness status during his scheduled press conference for tomorrow. Toti’s readiness to play against Liverpool is encouraging, and it’s feasible that he may start the match in the starting lineup. Toti’s start to the new season hasn’t been the finest. But we know that he suits a back three very well and it may well be that O’Neil is considering switching back to the old style against a side with some major threats.

Alternatively, O’Neil may use Toti, who Wolves acquired from Estoril for a meager £900,000, as a left-back in a four to contain Mo Salah, with Rayan Ait-Nouri mostly serving as a winger. Though it will be interesting to see what he accomplishes, Wolves will surely face a difficult challenge this weekend if they hope to score this weekend.
