Footage shows what Anthony Taylor said to get Morgan Gibbs-White sent off in Nottingham Forest vs Brighton

Nottingham Forest drew 2-2 with Brighton on Sunday to maintain an unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign but the debate rumbles on over the red card given to Morgan Gibbs-White.

The Reds were reduced to ten men in the final stages of the game on Sunday when Gibbs-White received a second yellow card for a reckless tackle on Joao Pedro.

The dispute arose not from the tackle itself, but from Rob Jones’ initial signal that Gibbs-White had played the ball and was satisfied with it.

Jones was stood down by the Premier League this weekend, in the strongest indication yet, and the powers that be believe he should have adhered to his original decision.

Gibbs-White had his day off earlier this week with the young squad, therefore he will not be available for Fulham’s visit this weekend.

The argument about the sending off continues, and it’s unfortunate that VAR cannot intervene or an appeal be filed after the game.

Well, this clip will irritate Forest supporters even more because Anthony Taylor’s words following the incident have yet to be revealed.

It appeared that Gibbs-White had clearly won the ball until his momentum from completing the tackle carried him into Pedro, who is now injured.

Some footage has surfaced in which Taylor says he believes the Forest man won the ball.

Then, in a weird turn of events, he repeats the words ‘it’s a yellow’ three times, forcing Jones to alter his mind and dismiss Gibbs-White.

Not a single Forest supporter would have complained if Jones had made the decision to remove Gibbs-White from the field, but the procedure was a disaster.

Taylor is there to serve as the fourth official, and interfering with something that the referee has obviously observed is not part of his role.

Forest must park this and focus on Fulham

Ultimately, the Reds were on the wrong end of another terrible decision, but this time it cost the team nothing.

Gibbs-White could face another game suspension and charges for illegal conduct after being sent off.

Taylor is currently unfit for purpose. He set the Premier League record for the most yellow cards when he refereed Bournemouth and Chelsea the week before, and now he’s making headlines again.

Still, there is no point in wailing over this from a Forest standpoint. Fulham’s whole emphasis must now shift to this weekend’s encounter, which provides the club with an excellent opportunity to pick up another three points.
