Celtic’s form this season has been relentless as Brendan Rodgers quickly asserts his dominance at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
With a Glasgow Derby victory now under his belt and five points ahead of the Rangers, Rodgers’ intentions are evident as Celtic has dominated the competition not only in Scotland but also throughout Europe.
Following a perfect start to the league season, the Celtic club appears to be a close-knit group both on the field and off, under the Irishman’s leadership.
But Callum McGregor has taken action to refute a rumor he had heard regarding what transpired during Celtic Park’s 2-0 victory over Hearts.
McGregor’s ‘cut and dry’ penalty chat with Reo Hatate
Arne Engels of Celtic scored a confident penalty against Hearts following a goalless first half.
Nevertheless, McGregor was seen speaking with Reo Hatate before to the Japanese midfielder passing the ball to Engels, and the Celtic captain has taken action to dispel a “rumor” he had heard regarding that exchange. This was before the Belgian scored the penalty kick.
During Celtic’s press conference, McGregor stated, “To be honest, it was probably not what you thought it was.”
“I heard a wee rumour after that but it wasn’t that. Basically, they two were the penalty takers. Did one fancy it, did the other one fancy it? Who fancied it?
“Right okay, you take it so that was it. Pretty cut and dry. I don’t think it was anything too important for me to step in and deal with that.
“But Arne felt good and thankfully he scored as well, so that was all it was.”
Celtic captain shows his class
At the time, 67 Hail Hail talked about how McGregor demonstrated true leadership at that particular moment when he intervened to handle the situation between Hatate and Engels.
During yesterday’s press conference, the Celtic captain demonstrated excellent leadership by downplaying the incident in order to prevent any unneeded publicity that would divert attention from the team’s preparations for the trip to St Johnstone.
Since taking over as captain, McGregor has proven to be a true leader, leading Celtic to seven out of nine championships as well as two significant victories in the Champions League against Feyenoord and Slovan Bratislava. Celtic supporters can expect further success in the upcoming seasons under McGregor’s direction.
