Two Sunderland exiles had a standout performance for the U21s.

Regis Le Bris has guided Sunderland to five wins in their opening six games of the season.

Sunderland is now second in the table, trailing an in-form West Brom. This is a significant improvement from previous season, when they ended 16th.

Despite a challenging 2023/24 season, Sunderland did not have a fire sale this summer. Many of the present players were also part of the squad last season, demonstrating Le Bris’ ability to maximize his team’s potential.

Because of Le Bris’ ability to bring out the best in his younger players, he may be reconsidering one Sunderland tandem, who scored for the U21s in their most recent defeat to Everton.

Forgotten Sunderland pair score for the U21s against Everton.

Before the 2024/25 season, Le Bris stated that he planned to use a small pool of players, making it hard for outcasts to return to the team.

However, two players who were not part of Le Bris’ plans up until now may have just pushed their claim to be reintroduced to the main team squad after scoring goals against Everton U21s.

Adil Aouchiche and Abdullah Ba scored for the U21s in a 4-3 defeat. After a strong performance at youth level, Le Bris may consider using them more in the Championship this season, as they had only played 12 minutes combined.

Regis Le Bris can repeat the Eliezer Mayenda procedure with Adil Aouchiche and Abdoullah Ba.

There are no concerns about Le Bris’ young coaching ability after almost a decade of working with FC Lorient in France.

During his short tenure at Sunderland, he has successfully turned around the career of Eliezer Mayenda, who went from struggling for game time with Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership to leading the line for a top Championship club in just months.

The same might be done for both Aouchiche and Ba, who have an average age of 21.5 and definitely have the ability to help Le Bris’ cause.

Le Bris is acquainted with both French players, notably Aouchiche, whom he coached at Lorient. If he prioritizes helping them achieve their full potential, they might be a valuable asset for Sunderland this season and beyond.
