Sunderland star breaks the hush following their arrival at the Stadium of Light.

After being let go by Hull City this summer, Aaron Connolly signed a one-year contract with Sunderland. The Republic of Ireland international used Instagram to announce himself to the supporters of the Black Cats.

Not long after Sunderland confirmed his free agent capture, the 24-year-old posted on social media to express his joy at having finished his move to Wearside.

Despite the striker’s eight goals in 28 Championship games, Hull City decided not to prolong his stay at the MKM Stadium after he signed a one-year contract with them last summer.

Connolly may not have done enough to guarantee his future at Hull, but Sunderland clearly took notice of his play, and he now gets the opportunity to show that he belongs at the Championship level at the Stadium of Light.

Taking to his Instagram account after his move to Sunderland was completed, Connolly kept his first message to Black Cats supporters short, but sweet.

The striker would discuss his feelings and goals as a Sunderland player in more detail on the team’s website.

Connolly said: “I feel incredibly privileged to sign for Sunderland. Even though I’ve only been up here for a short while, the atmosphere on Saturday clearly demonstrated the significance that this club holds for many individuals.

“I want to play well and do what I enjoy most, which is score goals, in order to repay the club for its faith in me and to reflect it in the correct way. After overcoming some obstacles recently, I’m prepared to advance in my career and am well aware of the enormous possibility that lies ahead of me.”

“Aaron needs an opportunity to re-establish himself and to reset the perception of him as a professional athlete,” said Kristjaan Speakman, sporting director of Sunderland. He was playing for his country and scoring goals in the Premier League not too long ago, but he has had some hiccups.

Everybody responds to difficulties differently, and sometimes we take a while to answer correctly. He will have the setting, the encouragement, and the chance to show off his skills at Sunderland.

“After the next international break, we have a critical 17-game stretch, and we think Aaron can strengthen our team over that time. We’re excited to support him during that process and assist him in settling in.”
Connolly has the opportunity to immediately carve himself a significant position.

Connolly might very well become a key member of Regis Le Bris’ team right away now that his transfer to Sunderland has been confirmed.

Last Day With day signing Ahmed Abdullahi sidelined for up to three months following surgery for a groin injury, Eliezer Mayenda, 19, is now the starting center forward.

Sunderland lacks depth behind the Spaniard because Nazariy Rusyn, a striker from Ukraine, hasn’t consistently shown that he can be a dependable alternative at the Championship level.

The only other senior striker available to Le Bris is Wilson Isidor, although the Frenchman appears to be more of a versatile forward who prefers to play out wide than an all-out striker.

As a result, Connolly would be expected to assume the position of number two center forward right immediately. Mayenda is still only a youngster, so Le Bris will probably want to be cautious not to overwork him despite his good season debut.

Therefore, despite the Irishman’s failure to deliver during recent loan stints with Middlesbrough and Italian team Venezia, his most recent campaign as a Hull City player may indicate that Connolly’s lightbulb has finally gone out.

If so, he may be a very wise addition to the Black Cats’ already formidable assault if he returns to the Northeast determined and eager to score goals and fight for playing time.
