MLS rumors: Gregg Berhalter to the San Jose Earthquakes

Following a lacklustre performance at the Copa America last summer, Gregg Berhalter was fired as head coach of the United States Men’s National Team. Berhalter might return to MLS manager with the San Jose Earthquakes very soon.

According to GIVEMESPORT, “The San Jose Earthquakes have interviewed at least four external candidates for their vacant head coaching role: Gregg Berhalter, Bruce Arena, Giovanni Savarese and Robin Fraser… interim manager Ian Russell is also under consideration for the job.”

Right now, the San Jose Earthquakes sit last in the Western Conference. Therefore, in a division without relegation, the only path is upward. Berhalter spent five years as the head coach of the Columbus Crew in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

Will Patrick Vieira take over as head coach of Atlanta United?

Following his resignation as manager of Strasbourg in the summer of last year, there were rumours that Patrick Vieira may take over as head coach of the USMNTI.e.The American team proceeded to hire Mauricio Pochettino. Vieira might still be able to find employment in America, though.

Vieira may return to the division after serving as an MLS coach with New York City FC. “Patrick Vieira is a finalist to be the next Atlanta United head coach,” claims GIVEMESPORT.

AFC Bournemouth is still open to accepting Matai Akinmboni.

At the young age of seventeen, Matai Akinmboni has made eight appearances for the MLS as a centre-back this season. A Premier League team has taken notice of someone who has emerged from the shadows at such a young age.

Steven Goff wrote on X, “According to two sources, Bournemouth made a second offer for Matai Akinmboni of D.C. United late last week. Not enough information to reach an agreement, but not enough to give up. In the upcoming weeks, a third offer is imminent. Next month is his eighteenth birthday. This year, despite injuries and loans, four MLS starts.”

This year, Akinmboni has also participated in USL Championship games for Loudoun United, the reserve team of Washington, D.C.
