But before the ball was even kicked in the match against Wycombe, Diego Carlos was forced off, dealing them a setback. Despite the lack of an official update, the fact that he was absent from the League Cup game raises doubts about his availability for this weekend’s meeting.

Matty Cash

Cash picked up a thigh injury and has missed the last few games. He’s one of the heartbeats of the Villa team, and with the number of upcoming games, there’s no need to rush him back into the squad but the likelihood that Diego Carlos might miss the game could force Emery’s hands. There is a huge chance that he could be with the team this weekend.

Tyrone Mings

Mings is back in full training more than a year after sustaining a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury against Newcastle United on the first day of the 2023–24 season. The England centre back is seen to be progressing well towards full health when he resumed team workouts on August 30. The team is still cautious regarding his availability for upcoming games, though. Perhaps holding off until after the next international break would be the most prudent course of action.

Boubacar Kamara

Like Mings, the French midfielder had his 2023/24 season cut short by an ACL injury. He has not yet returned to full team training, as his rehabilitation continues. He is not expected to return until late next month.

John McGinn

Due to a thigh injury, McGinn is also a serious doubt for this weekend’s match. He was substituted out of the game against Wolves last Saturday, and manager Unai Emery declared that he won’t be able to play for a few weeks, meaning he won’t be travelling this weekend. According to Emery, “McGinn is irreplaceable, but we have to look forward to having him back and ensure that the players who step in can do the job.”McGinn has been replaced by Leon Bailey, giving Villa enough depth to cover until he comes back during the international break.

taken off in the middle of the week before the ball was kicked, and no one has provided an update. There’s little chance he’ll be ready for the game this weekend.
