“Disrespectful” – Pundit stunned as Leeds eye new manager to replace Farke

Carlton Palmer, a former England international, has called the possibility of a “brilliant” manager succeeding Daniel Farke at Leeds United “disrespectful”.

Corberan linked with replacing Farke at Leeds

The Whites’ start to the season has put pressure on Farke, with a 3-3 draw at home to newly promoted Portsmouth on the first weekend leaving some fans dissatisfied.

Leeds are now sixth in the Championship, but with the season being in its early stages, they have the potential to move up the table as the season progresses, having previously reached the playoff final.

The Whites are reportedly interested in West Brom boss Carlos Corberan, who is currently performing well at the Hawthorns. His Baggies are now leading the league and appear to be among the front-runners for automatic promotion to the Premier League, having dropped only two points.

Pundit reacts to Corberan to Leeds rumour

In an interview with Football League World, Palmer questioned Leeds’ decision to replace Farke with Corberan.

“I think that is disrespectful. Daniel Farke led them to the play-off final, and while many are sad that they were not promoted last season, he had a lot of work to do and earned 90 points. If he scores 90 points again this season, they’ll be promoted.

“Why are they claiming that he is not safe, and who is saying this? Is this coming from Leeds, or is it only in the media? I mean, they’ve played six games, won three and drawn two. They have only lost one game thus far. They have 11 points after six games, trailing only West Bromwich Albion by five. So I find it amazing that we’re even having this topic.”

Palmer’s criticism of Farke’s work at Leeds is understandable, but the situation is complex. Granted, it hasn’t been a great start to the season, but sixth place and only one league defeat indicate he’s doing a lot of things right.

On the other hand, it might be argued that another manager could extract even more out of an exceedingly strong squad, with Corberan’s performance as West Brom manager implying he could be an improvement over Farke.

Last year, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman praised the Spaniard, saying, “He’s doing a brilliant job as far as I’m concerned.” West Brom are doing better than I thought – I predicted them to finish between 8th and 12th, which could still be the case given their opponents. “I think Carlos is doing an excellent job.”

For the time being, Farke deserves more time to continue establishing himself and demonstrating that Leeds’ only road forward this season, but if dismal results occur in the following weeks and months, Corberan may be an excellent replacement if he considers leaving West Brom.
