31-year-old’s return from injury is a ‘win-win’ for Leeds United, claims pundit

patrick Bamford

Don Goodman has claimed that Patrick Bamford’s return from injury is only going to help Leeds United get more out of Mateo Joseph in the coming weeks.

Bamford was sidelined for Leeds’ 2-0 victory over Cardiff City in Wales over the weekend after missing three straight Championship games with an injury.

Leeds decided not to buy a striker during the summer transfer window, thus Daniel Farke has trusted Joseph to be the team’s number nine this season.

Given that Farke desires stability in selection, the Leeds manager has not been eager to employ Joel Piroe in the number nine position and Bamford’s injury problems have rendered him unreliable.

Goodman is adamant that Bamford’s return will only benefit Leeds and Farke in the long run, notwithstanding the experienced striker’s recent performance.

Pundit believes Bamford’s return will sharpen minds at Leeds United

Bamford’s comeback, in his opinion, is a huge advantage for the Leeds team since it intensifies competition for spots, particularly the number 9 position.

Since Piroe has scored after entering the game off the bench, Goodman believes Joseph will have to stand up to the plate and sharpen his thinking now that the Englishman is back.

Although the Spaniard has only managed one goal this season, the commentator thinks Leeds’ boss should be pleased with his entire performance.

“It’s fantastic that Patrick is returning, as any player or manager will attest that intense competition for positions does indeed sharpen one’s intellect,” he told MOT Leeds News.

“Louisville wins there, and even though Joseph hasn’t scored many goals, Daniel Farke would have been happy with his performance levels.”

Going ahead, Joseph will probably remain Farke’s number nine, since many believe the Spaniard contributes far more to the club than the other players in the lineup, even in the absence of goals.

With his goals from the bench, Piroe has given Leeds’ manager a difficult time making selections, and the German now has another choice in Bamford.
