PHIL PARKINSON was happy that Wrexham recovered from their first defeat of the season on a day when other clubs dropped points.

The Reds, whose undefeated streak ended with a 3-1 loss to Birmingham City in the previous encounter, were not at their best against Crawley Town at The Racecourse on Saturday but triumphed 2-1.

Elliot Lee gave Wrexham the lead at halftime, and although Crawley equalised early in the second half, Max Cleworth headed home George Dobson’s cross in the 79th minute to secure victory, keeping Parkinson’s side top of the table on goal difference from Birmingham, who won 2-0 at Rotherham.

Other teams in the pursuing pack lost ground, but Parkinson was only concerned with his team’s immediate response to the first setback at St Andrews.

“Today was about getting back to winning ways and we have managed to do that,” the team’s manager stated.

“You look at the results around the country, and Stockport lost at home to Orient, and Huddersfield also lost. When you have had really good runs, especially at home, it can be difficult because teams come with a lot of respect for you and set themselves up to play at their best because they know they have to get anything from us after seeing the manner of our recent victories.

“Crawley were good, we have got to give them credit for that, but from our point of view it was about making sure we kept this start going.”

Parkinson said, “When you’re not at your best for whatever reason, you have to stand strong as a team and dig deep, and I believe we did.”

“We shown tenacity at the finish of the game.

“There will be other games like this throughout the season home and away where we are not at our best but it’s about getting the result and that is a great win.”
