Super Eagles player defeats Makgopa of South Africa to win accolade following outstanding performance for Orlando Pirates against Polokwane

In their Betway Premiership match at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday afternoon, Super Eagles defender Olisa Ndah turned in a standout performance to lead Orlando Pirates to a decisive 3-0 victory over Polokwane City, according to Soccernet.ng.

Ndah was named Man of the Match for his outstanding defensive play even though he was hurt in the 83rd minute after colliding with Cole Alexander.

Ndah’s performance was superior than that of Evidence Makgopa, a teammate, who scored two goals for the Buccaneers in the closing moments.

Ndah won the prize because of his poise, placement, and leadership in the back, even though Makgopa was a serious contender as well.

His central defensive role for the Pirates was essential to their ability to repel Polokwane City’s relentless onslaught and maintain a clean sheet.

Ndah demonstrated once more why he is seen as one of Africa’s best defenders. He was a member of Nigeria’s team for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and was recently called up for Nigeria’s upcoming matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

He was able to read the game and keep the backline organised throughout the match, especially in the first half when Orlando Pirates were under duress.

From the beginning, the Buccaneers maintained possession and generated multiple early opportunities.

When Polokwane City briefly attempted to attack, Tshegofatso Mabasa’s shot was deflected wide, and Pirates always appeared to have the better chance of scoring.

Early in the second half, Monnapule Saleng scored the first goal after stealing a pass from Relebohile Mofokeng and beating the goalkeeper from close range.

As the game went on, Karim Kimvuidi’s strong effort struck the upright, giving Makgopa the opportunity to touch in the rebound, increasing Pirates’ lead.

Late in the match, the massive South African striker added a second goal, converting a defensive blunder to finish with a close-range goal and completing a 3-0 victory.

Ndah’s outstanding performance cemented his status as one of the continent’s top defenders and underscored his significance to the Orlando Pirates’ winning streak this year.
