Brentford loaned out teenager Valentino Adedokun to Diósgyőri VTK on Monday.

The 21-year-old joined Brentford from Irish club Dundalk FC in 2021 and has been a member of the Bees reserve team. He has yet to make his Brentford first-team debut, however Thomas Frank has selected him in the matchday squad on many occasions.

Adedokun has joined the Hungarian club to further his development. In an interview with Diósgyőri’s official website, the Brentford-owned player indicated that the transfer will help him.

“I’m very proud to play for DVTK in this league,” he told reporters.

“I had only watched Hungarian teams in international events previously, and they impressed me. So, I believe the OTP Bank Liga is a tough league, and I’ll have a nice year at Diósgyőr for my career.”

The left-back has experience playing in Diósgyőri’s home stadium. He is excited to play for his new team in front of their fans.

“I was impressed with my teammates during the season opener.” “They played confidently, and I believe I can perform well in their company,” Adedokun stated.

“I’m excited for the first game since I’ve experienced the atmosphere of Diósgyőr’s matches before. The ultras were quite loud, and the fans created a fantastic atmosphere; I’d want to play in such situations.”

The Hungarian club has opted to rely on the young Irishman to fill the vacuum created by Stephen Bitoktól’s departure in the summer.

Bitoktól joined Diósgyőri on a free transfer in July 2023, making 34 appearances in all competitions last season. The 24-year-old Nigerian departed for Gaziantep FK in the past transfer window.

Diósgyőri sporting director Bajúsz Endre explained why they wanted to recruit Adedokun on loan from Brentford.

“After we unfortunately had to part with Stephen in the summer, replacing him became a top priority,” Endre recalled.

“We wanted to sign a young Hungarian player who was ready for the highest level, but we couldn’t find one on the market.Adedokun’s fundamental talents are confirmed by his previous appearances in the Premier League team.

“What drew us in was the fact that he nearly perfectly matches his predecessor’s profile: a left-sided defender who can also help assaults with rapid dashes and crosses. I am certain that he will rapidly integrate into the squad and become an important component of DVTK.”
