According to fresh study, Coventry City’s summer transfer window activity has improved the squad value by £6.2
million. The worth of the squads of fifteen Championship teams increased; Oxford United had the largest positive
difference (+128%).
From June 15 to September 1, several Championship teams made significant transfers, some of which stood out more
than others, during the summer transfer window. Oxford had the most effect, with a massive 128% gain in squad
worth, which was indicative of their record-breaking 16-player acquisition window.
The worth of Sheffield Wednesday’s roster increased by 116%, and they added Max Lowe on a free transfer from
Sheffield United, a rival team in the city, and signed centre-forward Iké Ugbo.
In contrast, the Sky Blues witnessed an 11% boost in the worth of their roster after adding seven new players,
including Jack Rudoni, who cost them approximately £3.5 million. As of June 15, City’s squad value was
£56,853,031. After the summer window closed on September 1, it increased to £63,104,506.
Grosvenor Casino gathered information on squad values from Transfermarkt in order to determine the winners and
losers. The clubs whose squads had seen a gain or reduction in value were identified by dividing the values by each
other to get a +/- percentage.
During the window, the worth of the squads of nine clubs decreased, with Burnley and Sheffield United experiencing
the biggest drops.
A number of Championship teams saw a drop in the worth of their squads during the summer transfer window,
which might be attributed to a slower or more difficult period of player acquisition. The two teams with the biggest
declines were Burnley and Sheffield United, which were relegated; their squad values fell by 25% and 24%,
respectively. This drop is a result of some of their best players departing the teams, such as Auston Trusty, who left
for £5.9 million, and Sander Berge, who went to Fulham.
Burnley spent the most money in the Championship, spending £48 million. With 23 new arrivals and 28 departures
during the summer transfer window, the Clarets experienced an incredible change in their roster.
Leeds United’s squad value was also reduced by 19%. With eight new players joining and 27 players departing
throughout the transfer window, Farke’s club has been quite active.
More moderate reductions of 6% and 1% were seen in Swansea City and Sunderland, respectively. This suggests that
squad stability will be prioritised over making significant roster changes throughout the transfer window.
