West Bromwich Albion are sweating over the fitness of star midfielder Jayson Molumby ahead of their meeting with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
Molumby is apparently “touch-and-go” for the Baggies’ trip to Hillsborough this weekend, according to a story from The Star over the weekend.
The Irish international was removed with 20 minutes remaining in Albion’s 3-0 away win over Portsmouth earlier this month, and he was not included in Carlos Corberan’s matchday squad that defeated Plymouth Argyle 1–0 on Saturday.
Corberan will not want to be without his hardworking center midfielder for a lengthy period of time, as he has played a key role in the club’s outstanding start to the 2024/25 season, which has seen Albion sit atop the Championship after six games.
Molumby’s availability for Owls trip is up in the air
According to The Star, West Brom are hoping Molumby will be able to play in Saturday’s game against Sheffield Wednesday, but the situation appears to be in doubt.
Corberan will not hurry the 25-year-old back into the starting lineup if he is not fully prepared, given his importance to the Baggies.
Corberan said in an interview with the Express & Star following Albion’s win over Plymouth: “Fortunately, it is not a serious injury. He got a grade one B injury in the calf last week that will keep him out of the team for seven to ten days, so we’ll see how he goes.”
Molumby’s WBA career stats (all comps), according to FotMob.

Molumby has been an important part of West Brom’s recent success, as indicated by his selection as the club’s supporters’ player of the season for 2022/23.
But a foot ailment sidelined him for the second part of last season, and after appearing to have put that injury behind him in the early weeks of the season, this fresh setback will be frustrating.
