The Hoops win another Cup tie. The hackers will be angry that we are succeeding.

We made it to the end; as I’ve always said, the only thing that counts in a cup-tie is winning so you can go on to the next round, or just win in the end. The way John McGlynn organized his team deserves a lot of credit. They caused us more problems than anyone else this season, even though we weren’t playing at full strength. They also scored two goals—though I believe the first goal should have been called back for a foul—which is two more than the Deid Team from Govan scored against us.

I also want to congratulate the Falkirk supporters who are traveling; it is the largest away crowd at Celtic Park since we played Greenock Morton in the cup. Well done; if they keep supporting their club in that manner, they should be able to advance. They were also very vocal in their support, much like Morton, at least until the game was virtually over for them. I’m sure that when their players were becoming tired, their supporters gave them an extra push, which is what supporters are meant to do.

I was relieved when Brendan acknowledged that he had changed his starting lineup far too frequently. Prior to kickoff, I advised my teammates to select a strong team and then add your bench players when the game was safe. We had lost far too many games against weaker teams in the past, so we had learned our lesson. The fact that Nicolas Kuhn was unplayable throughout his thirty-minute cameo must have scared Falkirk’s defenders, as we also knew that the team would tire out in the second half. We probably benefited in some aspects because the back four had never played together in a competitive game and it was Auston Trusty’s first start.

I’m not a big admirer of Scottish sportswriters; there aren’t many that produce quality pieces, and then there are the hacks like Keevins and Jackson. Michael Gannon, who also attempted to poke fun at the Celtic Board’s actions during the transfer window, correctly points out that Celtic only signed Luke McCown and Arne Engels at the eleventh hour, although there are explanations for that. Arne has been excellent since coming here; he’s a true Rolls Royce of a player. However, at the age of twenty, he played in the Bundesliga for Augsburg. Does Gannon not take into account the possibility that Bayern or Dortmund are keeping an eye on this? You can bet that Arne’s agent was hoping to hear from one of them, so when that didn’t come, they took the excellent offer to join Celtic, and sadly for us, if he maintains his form and progress, he will only be with us for two seasons at the most, and probably move on for about 40 million pounds.

Adam Idah was simpler; Big Adam desired to attend; all that needed to be agreed upon was the price, which I believe Norwich had originally sought to be approximately £15 million. Once more, let’s come to an agreement regarding Kasper’s contract. He was a free agent and wanted to come. Regarding Luke McCown, I am positive that Michael Nicholson was aware of him and had been following him for some time. However, we were also observing Mateusz Bogusz, a Polish midfielder, at LAFC, so it’s not enough to just focus on one guy; you need to observe three or four to see who you can acquire. Overall, I believe it was a really positive window for us, and as the season goes on, we’ll profit from that.

Our Champions League debut versus Slovan Bratislava was incredible. Although they weren’t as good as Barcelona or Real Madrid, they were still good enough to go to the tournament, and Lubo was right when he said that Slovan Bratislava was a formidable squad. We are all aware that there could have been more; if we had seized every opportunity, we would have been ahead of Bayern in the standings, but we’ll take a 5-1 triumph any day. It will be much harder in Dortmund next week, but if Brendan makes a few tweaks to his approach, I think we can succeed. Since we have the pace up front to hurt them in counterattacks, I would personally position Arne next to Callum in front of the back four.
