Sunderland midfielder Ben Middlemas has returned to the Academy of Light after a one-month loan at South Shields.
The 19-year-old joined the non-league club at the end of August and has played many games for the Mariners, scoring on his debut and winning Man of the Match against Scunthorpe.
Middlemas continued to play for Sunderland’s under-21s while on loan at South Shields, and he returned to his home club for Premier League International Cup matches against Athletic Bilbao and Borussia Monchengladbach.
Middlemas has now officially returned to Sunderland after his one-month loan with South Shields expired last week. South Shields announced in a statement: “Ben Middlemas has returned to his parent club @SunderlandAFC after a one-month loan.” We’d like to thank Ben for his efforts while at the club.”
Sunderland’s under-21s face Fulham away, following a 4-3 loss to Everton on Merseyside in the Premier League 2.
