Rangers CEO non-negotiables outlined as club ‘moving quickly’

Rangers chairman John Gilligan stated the team is “moving quickly” toward an appointment while outlining the non-negotiables for the next CEO.

Since James Bisgrove left to take a job in Saudi Arabia, the Ibrox club has been run without a CEO, with John Bennett filling in.

Now that Bennett has resigned as chairman and is helping with chief executive responsibilities, Gilligan is concentrated on selecting a CEO as soon as possible.

The temporary chairman has made hiring a new chief executive his “main priority” and has declared that he will stay in the position for however long is required.

“They need to have strong business acumen, experience, and have ran businesses where there is pressure and need to deliver. It can’t be a comfortable business because the stress and pressure of being CEO of a football club is pretty big,” Gilligan responded when asked what qualities were essential for a chief executive at Rangers.

They must be able to communicate well and connect with others. It goes without saying that they require an incredible work ethic because the difficulty level is unimaginable. They must be a decent person. I enjoy good folks.

When asked about a timeline, Gilligan responded, “We are right on.” There are a lot of folks in the area whom we can reconnect with. We’re working on it fast.”

Regarding if a non-football applicant would be taken into consideration for the position, Gilligan stated: “It would require someone extraordinary.”

“There are four or five requirements that you look for when hiring. That isn’t really necessary. However, it’s not far off.

“If someone extraordinary showed up… If he had no interest in or knowledge of football, it would be similar to me requesting to be the CEO of a software business. It’s challenging. It would be challenging without understanding the business and the product.”

Gilligan also disclosed that the board and chairman embrace the idea for the next CEO to be a driving force at the club, capable of making important decisions.

“Recruiting is current in all spheres of life. The candidate must possess many talents and be proficient in all areas.

“We are aiming to supply the CEO much more through the chairman, and he needs to be an outspoken figure.Additionally, the chairman should be a little behind the CEO’s daily power grab.”
