Rangers CEO non-negotiables outlined as club ‘moving quickly’

Insisting that the team is “moving quickly” toward an appointment, Rangers chairman John Gilligan listed the requirements that the incoming CEO must meet.

Ever since James Bisgrove departed the Ibrox club to take a job in Saudi Arabia, John Bennett has been filling in as CEO.

Currently, Gilligan is concentrated on selecting a CEO soon after Bennett left his position as chairman and began assisting with chief executive responsibilities.

The interim chairman has made hiring a new chief executive his “main priority” and has declared that he will stay in the position for as long as necessary.

When asked what characteristics are absolutely necessary for a chief executive to have at Rangers, Gilligan responded, “They need to have strong business acumen, experience, and have ran businesses where there’s pressure and need to deliver; it can’t be a comfortable business because the stress and pressure of being CEO of a football club is pretty big.”

They must have effective communication skills and interpersonal skills. They also require an incredible work ethic because, well, it’s just damn hard. They must possess moral character. I enjoy nice folks.

Gilligan responded, “We are well on.” when asked about a timeline. There are a lot of folks nearby who we can get back in touch with. We are working on it rapidly.”

Gilligan responded, “It would need to be someone exceptional,” when asked if a candidate from outside of football would be considered for the position.

“When hiring, there are four or five requirements that you must meet. It’s not absolutely necessary. However, it’s quite near.

“If an extraordinary person showed up… It would be similar to me requesting to be the chief executive officer of a technological business if he had no interest in or knowledge of football. It is challenging. Without product and commercial experience, it would be challenging.”

Gilligan disclosed the board’s and chairman’s support for a new CEO who will be a driving force at the club and have the authority to make important decisions.

“In any field, recruitment is crucial right now. The candidate must be multifaceted and proficient in all areas.

“He must have a forceful personality, and we want the chairman to be able to support the CEO considerably more.Additionally, the chairman should be somewhat in support of the CEO’s daily authority.”
