Newcastle soar ahead of Wolves for rising £40m star after failing to offload MLS target

Newcastle soar ahead of Wolves for rising £40m star after failing to offload MLS target.

After a stellar start to the Championship season for the winger, Luca Koleosho of Burnley, Newcastle United is allegedly in the running to recruit him.
In the summer of 2023, Burnley signed the Italy Under-21 international for £2.6 million (€3.1 million / $3.45 million), although his current value is far more.

Fabricio Romano reports that the Clarets have assessed the 20-year-old’s worth at £40 million ($47.8 million / $53 million). This price turned Wolves off before the transfer window closed last month.

Newcastle is now keeping a close eye on the 5’9″ player with Wolves, having had a bid of £20 million (€23.9 million / $26.5 million) turned down for him this summer.

Aston Villa, Brighton, Nottingham Forest, and Crystal Palace are among the Premier League teams who have reportedly watched him in recent weeks, according to the HITC report. He might not, however, be leaving Scott Parker’s squad anytime soon.

Additionally, it has been reported that the Magpies view Koleosho, a Paraguay international who ranks after Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes, and Jacob Murphy at St. James’ Park, as the ideal Miguel Almiron substitute.
There were rumours of a move to Charlotte FC in August, but the Magpies turned down the Major League Soccer team’s alleged £7 million (€ 8.3 million/$9 million) offer because it was too cheap. With two years remaining on his deal, the 30-year-old has just played two minutes of Premier League football this year. He was not used as a substitute in the team’s 3-1 loss to Fulham this past weekend. Thus, Koleosho might be viewed as an intriguing prospective acquisition.

Koleosho commits to Burnley

TEAMtalk can confirm that the teenage winger is admired by a number of teams, including Newcastle and Wolves, but getting him to leave Turf Moor will not be simple.

Burnley values him highly, and less than two weeks ago, he inked a new five-year contract that extends until 2029.

He commented on the new contract on the team’s website, saying, “It feels amazing to sign a new deal and be with the guys for another long period of time.” We all get along, the personnel, the surrounding folks, and the locker room. It’s just a really happy atmosphere.

Because of the people in our immediate vicinity, we arrive at work every morning eager to get started. I’ve witnessed our methods and our goals in action.

Newcastle also have eyes on two other wingers

Clearly Howe is very much focused on adding a new wing option to his ranks and Koleosho is not the first name to be linked with a switch to St James’ Park in recent days with Newcastle said to be among a trio of clubs exploring a potential deal for in-form Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman ahead of the 2025 windows.

The 26-year-old has taken his career to new heights since ditching the Premier League for Serie A, famously scoring a hat-trick as they beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 to win last season’s Europa League final.

Who is Luca Koleosho?

Koleosho, who was born in Connecticut in September 2004, emigrated to Spain at the age of eleven in order to play for CF Reus, a third-division team headquartered in Catalonia.

Before moving to Burnley 14 months ago, he made six first-team appearances for Espanyol in 2020, where he scored one goal.During the 2023–24 season, the adaptable winger demonstrated his speed and dribbling prowess while also recording one goal and one assist in 15 Premier League games.

After a game against Arsenal in November 2023, then-Burnley manager Vincent Kompany observed, “He’s just a fearless player, it doesn’t really matter who he’s up against.””He faced a very good full-back.”against Arsenal but he’s done it in every single game because in every game he’s managed to create and make something happen.”

His initial season was cut short due to a knee injury, but this season the Italy Under-21 international—who is also qualified to play for the US, Canada, and Nigeria—has been on fire, scoring goals in victories over Leeds United and Cardiff City.

After Burnley’s victory over Leeds, manager Parker praised the player as a “top player.” “He definitely needs to be refined; there is a lot of work to be done, and even though he was only in the league for a half of the previous season, you can see some potential in his game.”

At times, he finishes last on the training pitch because he always wants to give it his all. He possesses certain traits and characteristics that, as we’ve seen today, are lethal. He will be enormous for us.
