Joe Gelhardt axed from Leeds United squad as Daniel Farke preference emerges

According to Nancy Froston, Daniel Farke chose Patrick Bamford over Joe Gelhardt in his newest Leeds United team, indicating his preference.

According to the journalist, since Gelhardt was dropped from the squad for the 2-0 win over Cardiff on September 21, Farke has shown his choice.

Bamford has been out injured since the end of last season, leaving Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe as the major options at Elland Road.

Joe Gelhardt needs to find a Leeds United exit soon

Despite only recently returned to full fitness, Bamford’s immediate selection over Gelhardt on the bench demonstrates where the 22-year-old sits in terms of his Leeds future.

The striker was the talk of the town when he initially appeared at Wigan before moving to West Yorkshire, but things never quite worked out.

The striker did make some Premier League games, scoring the famous winner against Norwich, but his growth appears to have come to a halt.

Despite being linked with a move away during the summer, Gelhardt remained at Elland Road due to his present earnings (Graeme Bailey, September 6).

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post (30 August), the Whites did not sign any new attacking players to avoid running out of players as the season progressed.

Whatever the cause, it appears that now is the ideal time for both parties to cut their losses and part ways, either in January or next summer.
