Ipswich Town: Kieran McKenna on first five Premier League games

Ipswich Town: Kieran McKenna on first five Premier League games.

After five Premier League games, Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town, acknowledges that his team still needs to improve, but he is confident that they will.

The Blues have won their last three games despite being winless in their first five games. They held firm for a 0-0 draw at in-form Brighton, drew with Fulham at home in a match they could have won, and then, on Saturday, came back from behind to steal a point at Southampton.

Captain Sam Morsy’s late strike against Southampton kept Town’s point alive. Even in those defeats, Town saw some bright spots. The previous three games were a baptism of fire, with home losses to Liverpool and away losses to four-time defending champions Manchester City.

As of right now, they are two points above the drop zone in the early top tier standings.

“Three games, two of them away, each a challenge, as they will be, with their own story,” stated Town’s outstanding young manager, looking back on the team’s three-game winning streak.

It’s positive for us to demonstrate our various attributes and remain as competitive as we have.

“Last week was a different point to this one. At Brighton, we were defending and looking to see out a point. This week we’re trying to chase the point and get the late equaliser.”

McKenna acknowledged, “Look, we know we still have a lot of improving to go.”

“Over time, I believe we will undoubtedly improve on certain aspects from today.

“However, laying the groundwork for a successful group—such as perseverance and never giving up—is more crucial than honing our execution in every phase.

And throughout the past few weeks, we have carried out those actions. Getting something from away games is always pleasant.”
