Tottenham Hotspur claimed their second win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Brentford, but James Maddison’s goal celebration has sparked some criticism.

Just 25 seconds into the game, Bryan Mbeumo’s goal stunned Spurs, but Spurs rallied quickly. Dominic Solanke equalised from close range to score the team’s first goal.

Brennan Johnson’s incredible goal shortly afterward gave Spurs the lead, 2-1.

The Tottenham supporters went into a frenzy as Maddison then completed the victory in the final seconds with a lovely chip over the Brentford custodian.

His joy was met with ridicule, though, as he took off his shirt and hurled it into the air, earning a yellow card.

BFormer Tottenham scout Ryan King expressed his outrage at Madison’s celebration to Tottenham News.

Madison put in a strong finish. But why was he taking off his shirt during the festivities? From where does that originate? It indicated that he had received a cheap yellow card. He got the goal, which was excellent, to prove his argument. If he had been wearing a plain vest instead of a t-shirt with a message on it, I could have understood.

King continued, saying that although he didn’t think it was disrespectful, the uncalled-for yellow card and the taking off of the club shirt should have been prevented.

“What good is it to take it off and toss it into the air? Many people find that to be insulting. That’s not something I would say out loud. But it’s not necessary for it.

Someone will probably comment on that; it might be Postecoglou. The garment folded into a scrunched mass is the last thing a sponsor would want to see. If he had been wearing the Tottenham shirt, his celebration would have been far more impactful.

Although Madison has recently come under fire for not contributing more goals to the score, he appeared to be back on track against Brentford.

Given the importance of the victory, King’s criticism seems a little harsh, even though Ange Postecoglou might speak with him on the yellow card.
