Stephen Warnock delivers verdict on key decision during Nottingham Forest draw

Nottingham Forest battled back to share the spoils against Brighton & Hove Albion, with Ramon Sosa scoring his first Reds goal.

The Paraguayan international scored after a feed from Jota Silva, giving the Reds a positive result at the AMEX Stadium.

Forest took the lead via Chris Wood, but Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck brought the game full circle.

Forest’s Sosa equalized, but the Reds had to play the last 10 minutes with less players due to Morgan Gibbs-White’s dismissal.

Stephen Warnock gives decision on Morgan Gibbs-White’s sending off.

Today, the commentator was on Radio 5 Live for BBC Sport, where he gave his opinion on the game’s major decisions.

Warnock was nearby as Gibbs-White committed to a challenge on Joao Pedro to prevent a Brighton counter-attack.

He’s now given his opinion on the decision, implying that possibly the referee – or the fourth guy who attempted to persuade him to alter his mind – was correct.

He told BBC Sport, “It was right in front of us.” I immediately thought of Gibbs-White, who had covered the ground and halted the counterattack.

“You watch it again on the replay, and everything appears worse; Pedro’s ankle crumbles beneath him, but it is due to momentum.

“Rob Jones takes his time, and he’s being booed off the field for the way he refereed the game.” I believed he handled it well; he took his time making the decision.

“We have come to accept this season that the referee’s decision on the pitch is the final decision and I don’t mind that.”

Forest have to plan for Fulham without Gibbs-White.

It is not ideal for Forest to be without their talismanic captain for next week’s highly winnable home game against Fulham.

However, the arrival of Silva and Sosa and their immediate effect is preferable to being without Gibbs-White next week.

The Reds fought hard in their encounter against Brighton, and they were well worth their point at the end.

Gibbs-White did play a lot of ball, but his tackle forced the match officials to make a judgment.

Forest will now have to plan for Fulham without Gibbs-White, and Nuno Espirito Santo’s decision will be intriguing.
