Danny Murphy delivers his assessment of Wolves under Gary O’Neill following five Premier League encounters.

After five games, Wanderers are currently bottom of the Premier League standings, and yesterday saw Wolves give up yet another lead, which added to the misery. Ollie Watkins, Ezri Konsa, and John Duran scored goals for Villa in the second half, bringing them back into the lead after Matheus Cunha had placed Wolves ahead. Watkins’ equalizer gave many Wolves supporters hope that the match would go one way only. The previous Saturday, we witnessed Newcastle United lose to Wolves before winning. Furthermore, Wolves totally collapsed in the second half against Chelsea. Although O’Neil has had a difficult start as anticipated, Danny Murphy showed sympathy for him last night on Match of the Day.

Danny Murphy offers perspective on Wolves and Gary O’Neil

Gary O'Neil, manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers, looks on during the Premier League match between Aston Villa FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC at ...

For whatever reason, Wolves are currently finding it difficult to maintain a level for the duration of a game, and O’Neil needs to address this. If the Premier League table was based on first-half results, Wolves would currently be tied for seventh place with eight points. This most recent result at Villa has many supporters worried. On paper, it was a difficult game, but Wolves found themselves leading with about 20 minutes to go.

Murphy feels a little sorry for O’Neil considering the lineup. He stated, “The start has been difficult for them,” during last night’s Match of the Day. They have faced some strong teams and had moments when they looked impressive, such as the first half of today’s 70-minute match against Chelsea, but as we all know, you have to play for more than 90 minutes to win in the Premier League.I do have some sympathy for Gary. They lost probably their two best players, Neto and Kilman. Although they haven’t replaced them with anything of the same caliber, they still need to fix some of the errors we noticed in order to proceed.
