‘Knows exactly what he’s doing’ – Sky Sports reporter reacts to Leeds v Cardiff controversy

Rob Jones has no sympathy for Cardiff City defender Joel Bagan, who was sent off against Leeds United on Saturday (September 21).

Referee Joshua Smith showed the 23-year-old full-back, up against Wilfried Gnonto, a straight red card after only 23 minutes, with the challenge seen as last man at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Although the original decision was not implemented, Largie Ramazani took advantage of the extra man and scored his first goal in Leeds’ 2-0 victory.

Jones stated on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday (September 21, 3:31pm): “The sun is shining in Cardiff, but storm clouds continue to gather for Cardiff City, who are down to 10 men for the majority of this game.” Junior Firpo delivers a fantastic pass down the line towards Gnonto.

“He has Joel Bagan on his back, and I believe he’s a little too tight on him because Gnonto can roll him on the edge of the penalty box and drive into it.” Bagan understands exactly what he’s doing and pulls hard on his shirt.

“To be fair to Gnonto, he tries to stay on his feet as he stumbles and the referee brings it back.”

Leeds United get huge win v Cardiff City

Daniel Farke will have been licking his lips after seeing the Bluebirds fall down to ten men, especially given how his attacking players are gelling right now.

Gnonto, of course, is Farke’s biggest threat following the departures of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, but Ramazani’s arrival has relieved some of the burden on his youthful shoulders.

Manor Solomon’s absence from the matchday squad appears to be less significant than previously thought.

There is no doubt that Bagan deserved to be sent off for his last-ditch challenge on Gnonto, and Erol Bulut can make few arguments to the contrary.

Despite Pascal Struijk’s failed penalty, Leeds were able to all but seal all three points at Cardiff thanks to Joel Piroe, who stifled Cardiff’s ten men.
