Disappointed Sheffield Wednesday boss reacts to ‘hard to take’ decisions in Luton Town defeat

Danny Röhl, the manager of Sheffield Wednesday, believes that players, not “someone else,” should determine the outcome of football games.

Wednesday suffered a heartbreaking loss to Luton Town on Saturday afternoon at Kenilworth Road. They were pushed back after Di’Shon Bernard was given a controversial red card, which allowed Carlton Morris to score twice to secure the win for the home team.

Though he was upset with the result, Wednesday’s manager applauded his players for their performance on the day. It was the second week in a row that the Owls let a lead slip after Barry Bannan had put them ahead with a magnificent shot.

“Last week there was a 50/50 decision against us, today a 50/50 decision against us,” he said in an interview with Radio Sheffield following the game. “Towards the end we had three or four opportunities where we could score more and take a win – when you have two goals away it’s helpful to have two goals and be clinical.” Overall though, I can’t say much against my squad because they gave it their all, and I believe the fans now realize this.

“I believe they are usually 50/50, but it’s a little difficult to accept when I look at our box at the corner where we have Dish twice going down and nothing is there. It is unfortunate that today’s game should be decided by the players on the field, not by anybody else.

After their most recent loss, Wednesday is now 21st in the Championship, but if Preston North End wins tomorrow against Blackburn Rovers, they might fall into the relegation zone.
