Kyril Louis-Dreyfus stated that maintaining the ‘crucial’ player at Sunderland has been’so critical’.

Sunderland had a rather fruitful summer transfer season, despite a rocky start.

Fans had to wait months for Regis Le Bris’ appointment, which delayed the start of the Black Cats’ summer.

They signed Simon Moore and Alan Browne early on, but the majority of the activity took place in the last weeks of the transfer window.

Despite signing Chris Mepham and Wilson Isidor, Sunderland retained the most of its key players.

Jack Clarke finally made the move to the Premier League with Ipswich Town, although Jobe Bellingham, Chris Rigg, and Dan Ballard all signed new contracts amid interest from the top level.

Despite receiving several bids for their top players, Patrick Roberts was the most prominent name in the week coming up to the deadline.

Despite speculation that Luton Town were interested in signing Roberts, he chose to stay with Sunderland.

Former England striker Carlton Palmer has commented on Roberts’ desire, admitting that the forward’s tenure on Wearside has already been’so significant’ to the club.

Patrick Roberts has been ‘crucial’ in the first four matches.

Palmer told Football League World that Sunderland fans were pleased with Patrick Roberts’ decision to stay with the club.

“He has played a crucial role in Sunderland’s identity.”He is an extremely essential member of Sunderland and the football club. I am sure they will be overjoyed that he has stayed with the football club. Also, he is playing really well. He’s 27 now and entering his peak.

“I know Sunderland’s approach is to bring in young players and then transfer them on by paying them well. However, there are instances when you need to kick on, such as now.

“Sunderland are a major club, and under Tony Mowbray, they made the play-offs before losing to the eventual promoted team. However, last season was unsatisfactory with the managers they hired, so the leadership had to reconsider their approach.

“Obviously, as Mowbray stated, it’s nice to have young players, but you also need older guys.

“It appears that the new boss agrees and has brought them in. Look at what they’re doing: playing free-flowing football, attacking teams, and scoring goals.

“Roberts has played an important role in the way they play under the new manager, both going and closing down teams swiftly.

“It’s been so important that Sunderland were able to keep hold of Patrick Roberts.”

The Sunderland winger deserves a goal.

Roberts hasn’t scored since last year, but he has two assists in four games and seems like a serious danger on the right this season.

The 27-year-old’s form last season was a major issue, as he failed to deliver high-quality performances that compensated for his lack of goals. However, he has looked lot sharper and more like himself in Sunderland’s first four games.

Given how terrific the Black Cats have looked offensively, Roberts is undoubtedly closing up on his first goal of the season, and once he has it, his confidence will increase, and he will most likely score a few more.

The attacker must maintain his form this time around, as Ian Poveda’s return to fitness will make him keen to break into the starting lineup.

Sunderland’s roster is significantly stronger this season, which means underperforming players will be sent to the bench, whereas previous season they would often hold their spot due to a lack of squad depth.
