Norwich City column: The biggest difficulty Johannes Hoff Thorup faces is getting the attack to gel ahead of the Watford test.

Norwich City appoint Nordsjælland's Johannes Hoff Thorup as new manager | Norwich City | The Guardian

Someone far more deep than me once observed that the difference between anticipation and reality may generate an emotional rollercoaster, which seems appropriate in the early days of the Johannes Hoff Thorup period.

At times, it feels like there is an unhealthy expectation that with a youthful, forward-thinking coach, we would suddenly transform into a squad capable of swashbuckling displays that will lead to promotion in May.

However, building Hoff Thorup’s Jerusalem will take time. There will be many frustrations along the way, like as the dismal performance against Swansea last weekend. However, one defeat does not make us a terrible team; nor should it detract from the work being made to produce a side capable of playing an appealing style of football while also collecting results.

Norwich City columnist Edward Seaman hopes Johannes Hoff Thorup can get his side’s attack to gel.

Edward Seaman, a Norwich City journalist, feels Johannes Hoff Thorup can help his team’s offense gel.

Based on the first few weeks of the campaign, Hoff Thorup’s toughest problem may be getting his squad to gel in the final third. That is because, in the end, goals win games, and having only struck the back of the net four times in the first five games is rather tame, especially when those goals were only scored by two players: Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz.

The right-sided attacking role, formerly performed by Christian Fassnacht, Gabe Forsyth, Ante Crnac, and Oscar Schwartau, appears to be the missing piece of the puzzle.

Aside from Fassnacht, none of the players appear to be naturally suited to that position. Kaide Gordon, on loan from Liverpool, is another possibility in that regard, but as with any kid, there will be questions about his physicality to deal with the demands of the Championship.

Whoever gets the start against Watford tomorrow has a chance to make it their own.
