Wrexham expert wants to see ‘integral’ player dropped for hardly-seen summer signing vs Crawley Town

Wrexham will now turn their attention to a home clash against Crawley Town after losing to Birmingham City at St Andrews.

Wrexham suffered their first league defeat of the season on Monday night, with Birmingham City winning 3-1 thanks to a Jay Stansfield double.
Phil Parkinson was happy with his side’s ‘great’ start to the encounter, but following Jack Marriott’s early goal, they were unable to maintain their level and were pounded by wave after wave of onslaught.

Parkinson can’t complain about the scoreline since they were simply overwhelmed by a Birmingham side who invested a lot of money in the transfer window.

Nonetheless, Wrexham have had a fantastic start to the season, sitting top of the League One table going into their home encounter against Crawley Town.

Eoghan O’Connell could get dropped for Dan Scarr vs Crawley Town

Parkinson will explore changing his starting lineup for the visit of Crawley, maybe dropping Ollie Rathbone for Andy Cannon and Ollie Palmer for Steven Fletcher.

However, Wrexham expert Rich Fay believes Parkinson will make another surprise change to the starting lineup, detailing why Eoghan O’Connell could be sidelined in favour of summer addition Dan Scarr.
On the Rob Ryan Red podcast, Fay stated, “I think O’Connell has a little bit of burnout because he’s been so integral and played so much football. We need competition for spots. It still seems like O’Connell starts every game.

“As I already stated, he is perhaps our most undervalued player. Put that in a 4-4-2 season preview. He is our most underappreciated player.

“But Dan Scarr, I’ve only ever seen him in the Sheffield United match. I was impressed by the no-nonsense approach. I’m just wondering whether there comes a point when you say, “Look, give him a shot in a meaningful match because he deserves a fair shake of the whip.”

Should Dan Scarr start for Wrexham vs Crawley?

O’Connell was a bright spot for Wrexham in their loss to Birmingham City, but as Fay mentioned, giving the Irishman a break could do him a lot of good.

Scarr might get his first league start after playing 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup defeat to Sheffield United.

Scarr was acquired from Championship club Plymouth Argyle this summer to compete for a place in the back three.

The 29-year-old is a former League One title winner for Plymouth and has made nearly 200 appearances in the third and fourth tiers.

Scarr’s experience, however, has not earned him minutes in the league, as he has been named to the bench for the first six games.

With Wrexham facing Crawley on Saturday, a team that has lost their previous three games in all competitions, this may be the time to unleash the huge centre half in place of O’Connell.
