The precise moment Mark Jackson realized Archie Gray would be “special” for Leeds United is remembered.

After moving from Leeds United to North London, Archie Gray made his debut for Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night. Mark Jackson remembers the exact moment he realized Gray was “special.”

After joining Spurs for a £40 million summer transfer from Leeds, the 18-year-old has had to wait for his first debut in Spurs uniform. The England U21 player had substituted in the previous two Premier League matches.

However, he did not play in Tottenham’s last two games, which ended in losses to Newcastle and Arsenal. In last night’s 2-1 Carabao Cup victory over Coventry City, Gray was given the starting nod at right back.

After 88 minutes, Djed Spence tied the game with a goal from Brandon Thomas-Asante, and Brennan Johnson won it in injury time. Gray was good but not great; Spurs player Spence was better.

Jackson remembers a Leeds sideline assist that left him speechless.

Jackson, who is currently manager of Central Coast Mariners in Australia, collaborated with Gray during his tenure as Leeds’ U21 team manager. He remembers Gray’s assist in an EFL Trophy game that the team lost 4-1 to Tranmere Rovers.

At the age of just 15, Gray, wearing number 63, picked up the ball in midfield, turned the opposition, and threaded a pass into Amari Miller to score the lone goal for Leeds. Gray would be “special,” Jackson told Sky Sports.

“I had a favorite game that I played with the 23’s at Papa John’s. Our squad was quite young when we went. In that particular game, Archie was a player. He went on the ball in the middle, shielded it,used his strength.

Consider the age he was at the time: 15. He made a pass to Amari Miller that, at fifteen, perhaps no other player would have made on the field. I recall thinking, “Oh, that’s a little bit special,” as I watched from the sidelines.
